DO I HAVE TO AUDITION TO BE A MEMBER OF THE GROUP?

No, our group is open to anyone who supports the aims of our group, has a love of theatre and lives in BCP/ Dorset. We only audition when casting plays, not for membership. You can audition without being a member, however if you are cast in a play you are expected to become a member. Auditions are advertised on our website and in our newsletter.

CAN I JOIN IF I'M NOT AN ACTOR?

Yes! If you are interested in our local history, would like to get involved in backstage work, or if you'd like to be a social member and take part in our activities, you will be most welcome.

WHAT ARE THE AIMS OF YOUR GROUP?

The aim of Scaplen's Community Players is to promote historical theatre in the local community, through storytelling, drama and music and to learn new skills or enhance existing skills in all aspects of theatrical productions, through the provision workshops, informative talks and demonstrations.

WHAT HAPPENS AT AUDITIONS?

At auditions we take it in turns to read parts from the play that we would like to perform. We only do this in front of the director and one other person, not the full company. If you sound right for the part, you have a good chance of being cast. You need not join and pay us a subscription to read for a part - non-members can read for parts and join later.

HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED IN SCAPLEN'S COMMUNITY PLAYERS?

There are various ways. If we are casting a production, come and read for a part. If we have already cast the next production, come along to one of our rehearsals and watch us rehearse. There will be the opportunity to discuss how to get involved. It may be that there are backstage roles you could help with - finding props, costume design, assistant stage manager, prompt.

IF I WANT TO JOIN, DO I NEED PAST EXPERIENCE?

No experience needed, just get in touch. We welcome everyone including those with no experience at all. We particularly need people who are willing to help with costumes, props and set-building. DIY skills are quite useful but not essential.  Most of our actors help with those tasks too.  There are plenty of people to show you what to do, and you can acquire new skills as well as making use of skills you already have. If you are interested please come along to a meeting to see what we are all about

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS FROM BEING IN SCAPLEN'S COMMUNITY PLAYERS?

Our main aims are to have fun doing the things we enjoy and to make new friends. As well as being involved in rehearsals and performances we also offer the opportunity take part in our activities. We aim to provide equality of opportunity for our members and wider communities to learn new skills or enhance existing skills in all aspects of theatrical productions, through the provision of workshops, informative talks, play, readings and demonstrations.
